Pumpkin Cutout Cookies

Aunt Chick’s Pumpkin Cutout Cookies

Fall is in the air and the craving for pumpkin goodies is swirling in our head! Our cravings were cured with a mixture of pumpkin puree, nutmeg, clove. ginger, cinnamon with some other sweet ingredients. Make them colorful with a touch of orange coloring gel and you have a perfect little pumpkin patch on a tray!

CREAM TOGETHER

  • 1 stick of softened stick butter
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp cloves
  • 1/8 tsp ginger
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp orange coloring gel (optional)

MIX

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt

COMBINE
Add flour mixture little by little or all at once if using an electric mixer.

CHILL
Wrap dough in plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator for 1 1/2 hours.

ROLL
Flour your counter and a rolling pin. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.

CUT
Cut out dough with floured Aunt Chick’s Jack-o-lantern Cookie Cutter Form. It is best to re-flour your cookie-cutter every one to two times you use it. Also if you have a pastry brush it is a good idea to brush off the excess flour from the cookie bottom and top before baking.

DECORATE
Add raisins (cut in half) for the eyes before baking.

BAKE
Bake on ungreased cookie sheets at 350F for about 12-15 minutes or until edges are golden. Leave on a cookie sheet to cool and firm up for at least 5 minutes.

DECORATE
We used holly green luster dust and some vodka (it is disapparated) to make a paintable luster that we applied to the stem, eyes, nose, and mouth. Then I added quartered mini marshmallows for the teeth. EAT AND ENJOY!
